Cancelling or Changing Appointments

You must give us one working day advance notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment and be sure that you won't be billed for it. We keep a list of patients who are waiting for a cancellation so that they can get in as soon as possible. We need a full day to contact the patients on this list and schedule one into the appointment you are cancelling or changing.  If you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice and we are not able to fill it, you will be billed.

Prescription Refills

Be sure to call your pharmacy at least four days before you need the refill.  Even if you have no refills remaining, it is almost always best to call your pharmacy.  If a physician’s approval is needed for your prescription to be refilled, your pharmacist will call or fax us.

Schedule II Medications

Federal law requires that certain medications need a new, original prescription written by your doctor each time the medication is dispensed.  It is not possible to have a prescription with refills.

If you are requesting refill of a prescription for a schedule II medication, the best procedure is to leave your psychiatrist a voice mail including your name, the name of the medication, whether it is immediate release or timed release, the strength of the tablets or capsules and how many you take per day.  Unless you need to come in for an evaluation, you can expect a call back from your doctor or the front desk within a day or two telling you your prescription is ready to pick up.

Contacting the Psychiatrist-On-Call

If you are having an emergency, please call. A qualified psychiatrist is on call 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
  • Just dial the regular office number, 503-362-1999, and follow the instructions on the first voice menu.
  • You will be forwarded to the Salem Hospital answering service, who will page the on-call psychiatrist.
  • If our phones give you trouble, just call the Salem Hospital answering service directly at 503-561-5200
  • Or toll-free in Oregon - 1-800-876-1718
  • The psychiatrist on duty will call you back within five or ten minutes, twenty at the most.
